Dweezil, do you ever read your messenger messages on FB? I just sent one with an in-depth question. ARF! I didn't know where else to get in touch with you! Looking forward to see you in my birth town of Alexandria, VA!!!
My message to you is a bit long and tedious. Any other way to get a note off to you? My email is (yikes) roivshak at gmail dot com. Hope to hear from you! Again, SO effing excited about my trip back home to see you in September!
Thanks for your support. I'm working on some stuff to make the site more interactive for the upcoming tour and I'm looking for your feedback.
What do you think of this idea:
If there was an exclusive DVD quality 8 camera live stream with high quality stereo audio mix, would you like to be able to tune in as a fly on the wall for 30 minutes of daily band rehearsals at a set time, like 4:00PM PST - LIVE - on my website?
Would that be of interest?
I'm thinking of creating a way to make this happen as a paid subscription or daily pay per view.I could make it a daily rate, weekly rate or a monthly rate.
What are your thoughts? $3 per day, $10 per week or $35 per month. (The monthly could have extra features like live chat and question and answer with the band).
No-one is immune to inflation in this economy and I'm looking for ways to create a win win scenario for fans that also helps get the tour started while we are in much needed pre-production.
For example, the tour bus and trailer for this short tour will cost $100,000 and the majority of that cost is required up front. There are many other costs involved in preparing for the tour, band and crew rehearsal salaries, manufacturing merchandise (and much more), so I'm seeking a variety of ways to get this project on its feet.
I would LOVE that. Thank you SO VERY MUCH for coming back out on tour. Us life long fans of Frank and you deeply appreciate all you do to make and keep this extraordinary music alive.
I love this idea and would pester my friends to check it out too. It’s not lost on me that I hit a phase in life that featured a little bit of disposable income right about the time things got more complicated for you being able to perform your dad’s music. There’s been a lot of artists I have (happily) spent some money on and you and your compatriots are some that I’m really excited to have a chance to support again!! Your dad never pretended that artists don’t have to eat and pay their bills or that they deserve to live with dignity!!
Sounds like a good idea, it might not be convenient to watch live all the time but if you could do it in a way where you could watch anytime that would be great.
Good luck with the tour and hope it makes it way over here.
Hey Dweezil, very happy to see you ( and the crew!! ) back on tour. Based on my assignment schedule I won't be able to see this tour but there's always the next one.
Earlier, you had asked about a possible tier/paying system where we could pay for a live style event through a daily rate/weekly/monthly rate. And, based on some of the people I've talked to/interviewed ( as well as journalists who are using set ups like Substack and Pateron ), it seems the best route would be a monthly rate.
Thanks to the insane amount of work that needs to be done, most folks ( like myself ) can't drop what they're doing and see a live style event ( as much as I already do anyway without getting in trouble for it!! ). And, of course, the main goal is to get as many people into Frank's music/your shows, as you possibly can. With that said, the amount of work for you and your crew to put up a DVD/live cam-set up like the one you mentioned would probably cost even more money, especially with union requirements ( I'm part of the IATSE camera/production union and they are aiming to increase their fees for all kinds of stages, including theaters that feature live work, including concert set ups, by the end of this summer, depending on the negotiations between crews/production offices ). It's a great idea, especially since anyone can go live with gear about as big as a phone. But, with the amount of work you and the crew will be doing to maximize the music, especially on a consistent basis, I would imagine it would be somewhat stressful on your end setting up cameras/gear for a live event before/during/after a show almost daily ( I'm only guessing since I've never done music concert stage set ups before ). One monthly live event may be more realistic for you, after taking in the funds first and then paying for the necessary costs with that money. Also, you can still do live " drops " on Instagram for folks who follow you, teasing the shows, or even deliver a small preview, like you have been doing with the new band members, thereby saving you some money.
In terms of payments, a monthly rate between 35 to 40 a month would work, depending on the event and how many people can pay for it. I have NO problems myself paying for it since I'm a music fanatic ( both you and Rob Balducci on Reward Music have given me more than my money's worth, honestly ). But, having some experience with camera set ups ( along with professional audio equipment for movie/video productions ), it's a lot more expensive than most folks realize. And, the daily care of camera gear would require even more attention ( the latest digital stuff can break down faster than what we had even 15 years ago ). The new Sony HD camera gear we use at CBS in Sacramento is so sensitive: If you sneeze on it, you have to reboot it if not careful-NOT very helpful on deadline driven assignments. The insurance alone that we pay for on this new gear is insane. So, I can't imagine what the costs are for newer HD audio gear, especially gear that has to survive road worthy travel.
Hope that helps. Maybe see what you and your crew can find online and go from there ( I wouldn't order from Amazon: They sell on the cheap and most of the HD quality stuff is not really HD ). Take care and see you soon ( one way or another! ).
I will be driving 6 hours roundtrip to be in the VIP front row in Seattle. Will gladly support what ever format you come up with for your Band Rehearsal sessions.
No dates anywhere within hundreds of miles of Texas - that hurts. Hoping that you'll do a second leg on this wonderful tour that will come through here, and that your return to the road is a great one, Dweezil.
Thank you very much for your kind response, Dweezil - you've always shown Texas the love, and Kari and I will be waiting for you and the band to return in '25. Hope you or a member of your family still enjoy the NASA 60th anniversary T-shirt we were able to get to you after you played before Return to Forever here in Houston :)!
Hey Dweez. Looking forward to seeing you in Atlanta. My first Frank show was in '73 with the Roxy and Elsewhere lineup, so i am stoked for this show
