Frank, Dweezil and me...

Frank, Dweezil and me...

My First Zappa Show 1971.

I was in the front row looking up at Frank. He had a T Shirt on that said "RENTAL"...He had a look of disgust on his face as he perused the University of Denver Hockey Arena. His exact words were "I don't know what we are doing playing AT THE UNIVERSITY OF DENVER HOCKEY ARENA". His expression changed and with a bemused look he scanned the audience of college kids (me included) and said "You are a bunch of pseudo intellectuals. You probably don't understand our music...( at this moment his expression changed into a SHIT EATING GRIN) BUT SINCE THEY'RE PAYING US I GUESS WE WILL PLAY!" He then counted off into "Call Any Vegetable"...at that moment my life changed forever...I was witnessing a "God Amongst Men" and the concert was astonishingly brilliant.

My first Dweezil show in SF many years later. The Sound Check at the Avalon Ballroom.

Great story!

Emergency Man

The button is from the 1971 University of Denver "Hockey Arena" show.

I should have won the "Help Dweezil Legal Fees photo contest"...

Upon leaving (many years ago") the movie theatre an elderly lady said to me "There will never be another Frank Zappa"...no truer words have ever been spoken!

I found this single in a small record shop (again, many years ago) in the Soho district of London. The owner had a Zappa tattoo on his arm...with the money exchange it cost $300...my first time collecting anything. The money came from teaching Drum lessons.
